2017 May: Botanists of ZGC discovered a new plant species from the shola forests of the Western Ghats

A team of researchers of Botany Department, Dr. Manju C. Nair, Dr. KP Rajesh (Assistant Professors) and Ms. Chandini, V.K. (Research Scholar), described a new Bryophyte from the shola forests of the New Amaramblam in the Malappuram district of Kerala. It is named as Cololejeunea manilalia, in honour of Prof. KS Manilal, former Head of the Botany Department, University of Calicut. It is a curious plant growing on the leaves of shola trees
