The Research and PG Department of English, in collaboration with IQAC, conducted a workshop titled “How to Write a Research Paper” at the Research Centre of The Zamorins Guruvayurappan College. The session aimed to strengthen the research competence of undergraduate and postgraduate students by familiarizing them with essential academic writing skills, research ethics, and contemporary tools relevant to scholarly work.
Sreerag initiated the workshop with an introduction to the fundamental stages of writing a research paper, including identifying a research problem, developing a thesis, and structuring arguments. His overview provided a clear foundation for participants to understand the sequential nature of research writing.
Anooja George K followed with an engaging session on research-writing concepts, emphasizing clarity, coherence, and critical reasoning. She explained drafting strategies, literature review techniques, and the importance of maintaining an academic tone, which helped students understand how to effectively organize and articulate their ideas.
The next session, led by Priyanka Prasannan, focused on plagiarism and citation practices. She highlighted the significance of academic honesty and demonstrated how proper referencing, paraphrasing, and the use of citation styles contribute to ethical scholarship. Her talk reinforced the need for integrity in all stages of research.
Addressing a current and highly relevant theme, Salwa KM discussed the ethical use of AI in research. She explained the benefits and risks of AI-assisted work, urging students to use such tools responsibly and transparently while ensuring that originality and authorship remain uncompromised.
The workshop concluded with remarks by Dr. Anusree, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, who emphasized the value of research in academic growth. She encouraged students to cultivate curiosity, discipline, and ethical awareness as they engage in scholarly activities.
Overall, the workshop provided a comprehensive introduction to research writing, offering practical guidance, ethical insights, and motivational direction. It successfully enhanced students’ understanding of the research process and underscored the importance of responsible academic practice.
